Is your foundation solid?

“Your love for yourself is the bedrock that your entire foundation stands upon.”   – G. Brian Benson

I want you to take a second and really let that quote sink in….  What does it mean to you?  For me…it stresses the importance of loving yourself and how crucial that love is to really take off and live the life you deserve and were meant to live.   If you don’t love and accept yourself for the amazing and wonderful person you truly are, your foundation will be shaky as you go through life.  What does a shaky foundation look like?  It could mean many things.  It could create a lack of confidence or belief in yourself in wanting to accomplish a goal or dream.  It could bring out your insecurities in a relationship.  Or it could leave you walking through life feeling unworthy and fearful because you feel that you aren’t deserving of anything joyful.  I don’t want this to be the case for anyone!

This subject of people not really loving themselves like they should became very clear to me as I began to do an interactive workshop called “Unleash Your Dreams!”.  There is a section during the workshop where I ask everyone to take a minute and write down 5 things that they like about themselves.  It could be anything…their eyes, their personality, their athletic accomplishments, etc…  I was very surprised when many of the workshop attendees said they couldn’t come up with anything!  My heart sank….  I then tried to guide them to find a few items to put on their list.  I mean I had no trouble seeing their gifts, but they did.  I immediately made a note to myself to focus on this section of my workshop in the future so I could try and help people who are standing on a shaky foundation because of a lack of love for themselves.  I wanted them to see their gifts as well as realize how important it is ….so they could unchain themselves and really move through life in love, joy, and living out their goals and dreams.

My work continues in trying to help other see their true inner-greatness.  It resides within all of us, I can guarantee that.  You just need to look inside and peel some layers to get there!  And the very first thing and the most important thing that we can do is to truly love ourself.  Once you can get there, the sky is the limit!  I am going to do something that I have never done before in one of my blogs…I am going to leave you with a bit of homework today.  Please take a few minutes and write down 5 things that you like about yourself.  If you can come up with more…do it!  And when you feel you are done, whether it is 1 item or 10 items…let them wash all over you and sink in to your being.  They are truths and they will help you stand solid and firm on your own personal foundation.  With that being the case…anything is possible!

    1. What a wonderful article Brian and how very true! It took me many years to learn this, but my life could not be more different now, simply for learning this one rule.
Continue with your inspiring work Brian, I wish you great success.
